Topic Of The Week..09/04/14

Welcome To This Week's
''Let's Talk About''

So I was unable to do a topic last week due to some family things,
and for that I am sorry.. But! I have finally got my words in order and decided to write about my original topic.
I've really wanted to write about this since I find it very important to myself and society, I'm so glad that I didn't give up and worked on it..

So now that I've taken care of all that, let's get on
with it!
You ready?

    This week's topic is......

"Depression"

Now main question here is,  What is depression?

well for one thing,  there are many types of depression.
Depression in it's "self" is the same however the effects it may cause vary.

The doctor's in our society have categorised these different effects that impact a human being.
From minimal to severe,  this helps them be more aware of what the patient has and how to properly deal with it.
however..  depression is also very tricky to understand, and can be underestimated when a diagnosis's is being made.
What people do not realise is that this mistake is often made, and resulting in either the wrong medication or treatment.

Here is a more detailed definition about depression from Wikipedia,
if you wish to read the rest of it just click on the link below..
And as always, I do not own or have written any of the following, the credit belongs to the creators and Wikipedia.

*Depression (mood)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Depression is a state of low mood and aversion to activity that can affect a person's thoughts, behavior, feelings and sense of well-being.[1] Depressed people can feel sad, anxious, empty, hopeless, worried, helpless, worthless, guilty, irritable, hurt, or restless. They may lose interest in activities that were once pleasurable, experience loss of appetite or overeating, have problems concentrating, remembering details, or making decisions, and may contemplate, attempt, or commit suicide. Insomnia, excessive sleeping, fatigue, loss of energy, or aches, pains, or digestive problems may also be present.[2]
Depressed mood is not always a psychiatric disorder. It may also be a normal reaction to certain life events, a symptom of some medical conditions, a nutritional deficiency or a side effect of some drugs or medical treatments. Depressed mood is also a primary or associated feature of certain psychiatric syndromes such as clinical depression."*

There are various sites which offer help and support that you can look into,
as well as places near you which you can turn to for advice or help.
No matter what the reason if you feel like your more down and out then the usual stresses in life please don't hesitate..
Go talk to someone whether it's a friend that knows how you usually are for advice, or a professional to see if your sorrows are more then just normal.

Even though the sites we look at does have great information, they can not give you a proper diagnosis, and treatment if you are medically depressed, and you require more help then counting to ten and taking a breath..

Life is hard as we already know,
many of us can deal with the issues the world hurls at us.
Sometimes we can lose ourselves in the negative, and just can't pull out of it.
And THAT'S OKAY!!.
We are human.. and depression or panic attacks even anxiety, which often come together, is not contagious or makes you a crazy.

It's a chemical imbalance in the brain and your heart.
Also.. even if you get rid of the depression that does not mean you will never have it again,  just like many illnesses, (colds, flu's, etc..)
The depression can return.. But remember with the right help it can be retreated.

Another site that I have read due to my own personal reasons,
have a pretty detailed description on what may be the causes for depression.
So I have decided to also link this page for anyone who would like to view the entire site.
Here is some of the idea's from this article that lists some of the causes from the site in mention..

Causes of Depression

Have you ever wondered what causes clinical depression? Perhaps you have been diagnosed with major depression, and that's made you question why some people get depressed while others don't.
Depression is an extremely complex disease. It occurs for a variety of reasons. Some people experience depression during a serious medical illness. Others may have depression with life changes such as a move or the death of a loved one. Still others have a family history of depression. Those who do may experience depression and feel overwhelmed with sadness and loneliness for no known reason.

What Are the Main Causes of Depression?

There are a number of factors that may increase the chance of depression, including the following:
  • Abuse. Past physical, sexual, or emotional abuse can cause depression later in life.
  • Certain medications. Some drugs, such as Accutane (used to treat acne), the antiviral drug interferon-alpha, and corticosteroids, can increase your risk of depression.
  • Conflict. Depression in someone who has the biological vulnerability to develop depression may result from personal conflicts or disputes with family members or friends.
  • Death or a loss. Sadness or grief from the death or loss of a loved one, though natural, may increase the risk of depression.
  • Genetics. A family history of depression may increase the risk. It's thought that depression is a complex trait that may be inherited across generations, although the genetics of psychiatric disorders are not as simple or straightforward as in purely genetic diseases such as Huntington's chorea or cystic fibrosis.
  • Major events. Even good events such as starting a new job, graduating, or getting married can lead to depression. So can moving, losing a job or income, getting divorced, or retiring.
  • Other personal problems. Problems such as social isolation due to other mental illnesses or being cast out of a family or social group can lead to depression.
  • Serious illnesses. Sometimes depression co-exists with a major illness or is a reaction to the illness.
  • Substance abuse. Nearly 30% of people with substance abuse problems also have major or clinical depression.

How Is Biology Related to Depression?

Researchers have noted differences in the brains of people who are depressed as compared to people who are not. For instance, the hippocampus, a small part of the brain that is vital to the storage of memories, appears to be smaller in some people with a history of depression than in those who've never been depressed. A smaller hippocampus has fewer serotonin receptors. Serotonin is one of many brain chemicals known as neurotransmitters that allow communication across circuits that connect different brain regions.
Scientists do not know why the hippocampus may be smaller in some people with depression. Some researchers have found that the stress hormone cortisol is produced in excess in depressed people. These investigators believe that cortisol has a toxic or "shrinking" effect on the development of hippocampus. Some experts theorize that depressed people are simply born with a smaller hippocampus and are therefore inclined to suffer from depression.  There are many other brain regions, and pathways between specific regions, thought to be involved with depression, and likely, no single brain structure or pathway fully accounts for clinical depression.
One thing is certain -- depression is a complex illness with many contributing factors. The latest scans and studies of brain chemistry suggest that antidepressants can help sustain nerve cells and allow them to form stronger connections that withstand biological stresses (called "neurotrophic effects").  As scientists gain a better understanding of the causes of depression, health professionals will be able to make better "tailored" diagnoses and, in turn, prescribe more effective treatment plans.

Now let me tell you.. I have been diagnosed years ago with severe depression among other things. Unfortunately, over the years it has been a up and down battle and recently in the past year, has gotten worse.
I believed I was alone, that NO ONE could understand the pain I experience everyday.
Waking up and wishing to go back to sleep, not sleeping at all or to much,    eating a lot or barely enough, body pains, mood swings, even some thoughts of harm has played it's part a time or two.
But now I am working on my self instead of focusing on the people around me and what they expect or think I am.  And for starters,  I started this here blog as a coping method and a way to become a new me!
I had many problems starting from a young age, and some trauma's in my life that I shouldn't have had to go through. But I did.. and I can't change the past, but I can change my future!

Don't be afraid of being hurt and lost.. Don't think about it and just DO!..  Go find a way to become happy,  if you don't even try how will you know it can work.    Not every method is best for you but the doesn't mean there is no hope.. you will find a way just like me.
Now I can go on forever about depression and such but I think I will save that for another day.
*Remember this*.. If you are thinking bad thoughts, even just a little..
 GO GET HELP!
It's neither healthy or safe to let these continue for any amount of time.
And no you do not have to admit yourself unless that is what you wish or the situation has a need to do it.
there are lots of ways to help yourself, just as long as you try.
If you can't do it alone, ask a friend or family that you trust to help and set it up for you.                                                                                                                                            Myself.. I even need the help to get it all figured out
I find it hard to go and take action..
but that's okay!
We have the right to ask for help, no one can say otherwise.
And remember... We are not alone and I am not a proffessional but I am always willing to listen to others, I may not know the ins and outs but I do know how it feels to be depressed and scared.
And I find that by helping others if they wish, also helps me to some degree.
Anyways...  That's all the time I have left to write ha ha.. so take care, dont't be afraid to write a comment and such I love hearing responses from all of you..
And that's it for this week's ''Let's Talk About''..

From Miss Lynn to you.... See you in the next one!
